Our Story: Kinvara Plein Air

Kinvara Plein Air is a not-for profit community arts organisation dedicated to the promotion and organisation of plein air activities. We cater for artists of all levels, working outdoors from observation in any medium. We are committed to an inclusive ethos and actively promote diversity. KPA is organised by members of Kinvara Area Visual Arts (KAVA) and other volunteers from the Kinvara community.

The Kinvara Plein Air festival is an annual event, running since 2022 in the picturesque Kinvara village, on the Wild Atlantic Way and in the surrounding areas of South County Galway and the Burren, Country Clare. It runs each year over the June Bank Holiday weekend, attracting artists from all over Ireland and internationally.

In addition to the annual festival each year the KPA team organise a number of other plein air activities, including

  • workshops for juniors and teens (in partnership with Tigh Sayre and the Gort Family Resource Centre)

  • informal paint outs throughout the year for adults

  • painting retreats in other locations in Ireland

Our Charities:

KPA’s mission includes raising money to support our designated charities each year:

·      Kinvara Alive, a local charity that raises awareness about wellbeing and mental health in our community. “We bring a source of hope to those in despair; to show you that we care by informing you of the confidential supports and resources available”.

·      Médecins Sans Frontiéres (Ireland) MSF is an international humanitarian organisation providing medical care in over 70 countries, treating people caught in complex crises and chronic healthcare emergencies around the world.
