The Cruinniú na mBád festival in Kinvara
(7-9 August) celebrates the living tradition of the sailing of the beautiful Galway hookers. Artists welcome to join us to paint or sketch outdoors in any medium. Participating artists are invited to the Skippers Barbeque

PLEIN AIR WORKSHOP WITH KIERAN GUCKIAN
There are few better spots in the county to set up an easel. The castle, the lake, the old grounds — it’s the kind of place artists travel a long way to find, and we’re spending a full day there with Kieran Guckian.
Running from 10.30am to 4.30pm, it’s built around doing, not watching. Kieran starts with a demonstration, then works with each of you one-to-one, whatever your level. This workshop is suitable for artists working in oil or acrylic. whatever you’re painting in. Lunch is provided, and an indoor space to fall back on if the weather turns.
€80 per person. 50 % refund if you cancel by 11 August.

THREE-DAY PAINTING COURSE WITH JENNY AITKEN (RSMA)

We paint outdoors when the weather allows, and there’s plenty to chase: landscape, the lake, the interiors of the castle itself when the sky turns. Each day runs 10am to 4pm with a break for lunch — a demonstration from Jenny to start, then she works with each of you one-to-one. Lunch and refreshments are provided on site, an indoor space when you need it, and exclusive run of access to Lough Cutra throughout.
This one’s pitched at artists who already work outdoors (in oil or acrylics), and have their own set-up, but want to go deeper. Places are limited so everyone gets proper individual attention.
Course Fee: €580 per person.
Two optional evenings out if you fancy the company: a group supper at the Rustic Oven in Tully’s, Kinvara on the Friday (€20), and dinner at the Pier Head on the Saturday (€45).
